Honest Meets: Co-Founder - Luke Jones

 

We held a Q&A session with our founders, delving into the story of how our business began and discussing what's in store for Honest in the future.

1. What led you to create Honest? And what were you doing previously?

It all stemmed from Covid, I was working as a freelance UI/UX designer in London, and as soon as the lockdown was announced, my contract was cancelled and I was left with not much to do. Any who know me will know that I can't sit still for long.

During the second week of lockdown, by chance I saw a still for sale, which kind of made me think about distilling my own rum. I messaged Dave who was in Auckland and said "what do you think about creating our own rum brand?" He tentatively replied with a "yeah, why not", and we didn't talk about it again for two weeks. Then out of the blue, he sent me a two page message detailing how we could go to market... and the rest is history. 

 

 My current full-time job is working as a senior-lead product designer. I'm quite fortunate because I work with an amazing team and I have an amazing client, so sometimes it doesn't really feel like work. Generally I'll work on Honest 3-4 evenings a week and the majority of the weekend. But it doesn't really feel like work - it's just hanging out with your mate, creating something you hope people will enjoy. 

 

I guess the biggest challenge is time. We have lots of cool work in our pipeline, but it's just finding the time to work on them.
